In 1981 the LORD DELAMERE lay in the mud of the Dee estuary adjacent to land owned by the Central Electricity Generating Board (C.E.G.B.).

At that time the top 30' of mast was visible sticking out of the sand and mud and was in fair condition.

The mast was round section but changed to square (with bevelled corners) where it entered the sand. The majority of the mast then visible had been uncovered during the previous five years following the diverting of a channel to run close to the mast.

It was hoped that the tides would remove even more of the mud and sand in the future and so make recovery of the LORD DELAMERE possible. Sadly, lack of time and funding meant that the project was abandoned.

By 1994, when the new Connah's Quay Power Station was being built, the mast had disappeared. It is not known when it was lost but there were unconfirmed reports that it had been removed using explosive charges as it constituted a navigation hazard.
